Green Workforce Initiatives
As clean energy and environmental concerns change the way we do business in this country, workers need to become more "green" savvy and there is a world of new opportunity for people looking for work. The Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board plays a leadership role in the city in developing research on green jobs, connecting green job training to the public workforce system, convening partners to build a green workforce, soliciting funding, and managing major projects. Green Job Readiness Partnership
The Green Job Readiness Partnership is focused on building the talent pipeline for the clean energy and energy efficiency sector. Working with the Federation of Neighborhood Centers and two member agencies, and the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board is managing this project designed to prepare 200 unemployed workers to enter green-collar training and gain employment.

Greater Philadelphia Innovation Cluster
The Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board is a partner in the effort funded through a $25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to create breakthrough building energy efficiency technology and practices at the Navy Yard.

Public Workforce System Green Partnerships
The Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board is leading precedent-setting efforts to promote the hiring of Philadelphia workers trained and referred by the public workforce system. Major projects are underway with PGW's Energy Efficiency Program and EnergyWorks.
